A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more people to make decisions on your behalf during your lifetime; those people are called your Attorneys. A Lasting Power of Attorney is a separate legal document to your Will although many people obtain them at the same time as getting their Will written as part of their planning for the future.
When you have a Lasting Power of Attorney you can have peace of mind that there is someone able to look after your affairs if you became unable to do so yourself during your lifetime. This could happen for example because of illness, old age or an accident.
Having a Lasting Power of Attorney in place can allow your attorney to have authority to deal with your finances and property or make decisions about your health and welfare. Without a Lasting Power of Attorney there is no one with the legal authority to manage your affairs e.g. to access your bank accounts or investments or sell your property on your behalf. People assume that their spouse, partner or children will be able to do this in any event but without Power of Attorney this is not the case.
If you wish to have peace of mind that someone you trust will have the legal authority to look after your affairs then we can prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney for you and arrange for it to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian.
We will provide a full breakdown of costs at the outset, before you commit to instruct us, and will give you a fixed fee for the work without any hidden extras. This means that you know exactly what you will be paying.
